Join us on Thursday, September 20, in the exhibition Give a damn. for the first public presentation of Metamorphosis, a dance choreographed by Skidmore Assistant Professor of Dance Jason Ohlberg. Metamorphosis will be performed twice, at 6:00 PM and at 6:30 PM. The second performance will be followed by a Q&A with the participants.

A response to Lari Pittman’s bold and complex painting Once A Noun, Now A Verb #1 (1997), Metamorphosis explores themes of identity and the mutability of self-awareness and expression in reaction to our external world. Drawing from Pittman’s rich and vibrant imagery, Ohlberg utilizes compositional manipulation of gestures and phrase work derived from the painting’s central themes as a means of examining individuality and transformations necessary to navigate modern life in urban landscapes.

Featuring a newly commissioned score from Skidmore Music Director Carl Landa and costumes by Eric Rudy, Metamorphosis will be performed by Ohlberg and Skidmore Lecturers in Dance Erika Pujič and Christin Williams.

The event is free and open to the public with limited seating. Please call the Visitor Service Desk at 518-580-8080 to reserve a ticket. If you have reservations, please arrive early. Five minutes before the performance time, any unclaimed reservations will be given to people on the waiting list. If any visitors are unable to get seats, they are welcome to visit the galleries and to attend the Q&A which begins at 7:00 PM in the Payne Room.
