The Shaker emphasis upon the spiritual world may be seen in their physical objects. Every detail of their creations-the curve of a knob on a chest, the taper of a table leg and the graceful arm of a chair stands as outward manifestation of the Shaker’s inward quest for spiritual order. Furniture, tools, and textiles from several Shaker communities are displayed in combination with contemporary art as a means to explore invention, spirit, and aesthetics.
Work: Shaker Design and Recent Art won honorable mention in exhibition catalogs in the 2001 American Alliance of Museums annual Publication Design Competition.
