Hyde Cabinet #1: Eye Candy presents a triple entendre that examines the candy-like nature of oral contraception, the way women are perceived through the male gaze, and plays off of the April 1969 issue of Eye magazine. This exhibition, featuring material from the Tang Teaching Museum collection, aims to spark conversation around gender equality and a woman’s right to have agency over her reproductive health.
The Hyde Cabinet, named in honor of Megan Hyde, former Tang Educator for College and Public Programs and Curatorial Assistant (2008-2016), is an exhibition case curated by members of the Tang’s Student Advisory Council. Hyde Cabinet #1: Eye Candy is organized by Monica Andrews ’19, Samantha Garcia ’19, Sami Israel ’19, Kira Lee-Mundschau ’20, and Fiona McLaughlin ’20.
