A painter, sculptor, and sound artist, Steve Roden employs a combination of conceptual strategies and intuitive movements in his work. His sound installations take form from singular source materials such as objects, architectural spaces, and field recordings, which are abstracted through electronics to create ‘possible landscapes.’ As Roden explains, “my own work moves towards the creation of an audio space that one can move around in. Listening becomes an activity of architectural wandering.”
Roden received a B.F.A. from Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles, in 1986 and a M.F.A. from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California, in 1989. For more than twenty years, he has been exhibiting his work and performing both nationally and internationally.
