Imaan Riaz, Skidmore College Class of 2015, was the 2014-15 Eleanor Linder Winter ‘43 Endowed Intern, a yearlong paid internship. As the Winter Intern, Riaz had the opportunity to define her internship by selecting the museum departments in which she wanted to work.
Riaz, a Management and Business major with a minor in Art History, spent fall 2014 in the Engagement Department formulating and implementing the programming of events for current and future exhibitions on contemporary art. Working alongside the Museum Educator for College and Public Programs and the Assistant Director for Engagement, she helped to conceive and program events for the spring 2015 exhibitions Nicholas Krushenick: Electric Soup and Realms of Earth and Sky: Indian Painting from the 15th to the 19th Century. One of Riaz’s events was the South Asian Festival, a celebration of South Asian culture with henna, craft activities, Indian food, and special performances.
Spring 2015 brought Riaz to the Curatorial Department where she worked under the Assistant Director for Curatorial Affairs Rachel Seligman to research and write for upcoming exhibitions, compiling artist exhibition histories and biographies for catalogue production, while also creating check-lists and scale models for exhibition layouts.
In the summer of 2015 Riaz curated an exhibition of work from the Tang’s collection called Dismantling the House, with a focus on feminist artists and curatorial practices.
