Elaine Mayes documented a generation of young people living in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, a community hospitable to countercultural and revolutionary ideas. There she photographed this Vietnam War draft dodger, one of over 500,000 young men classified as draft offenders during the Vietnam era.
