Object Label

Edward Schwartz photographed this railroad worker in the historic Bowery; in the 1940s, this deteriorating New York neighborhood was nicknamed “Skid Row.” As a member of the New York Photo League, Schwartz believed documentary photography could create a powerful social impact.
