3-D Doings Curators’ Talk and Opening Reception

Join us on Saturday, September 8, at 4:00 PM, for a conversation with the curators of 3-D Doings: The Imagist Object in Chicago Art, 1964-1980, Tang Dayton Director Ian Berry and Chicago-based curators and scholars John Corbett and Jim Dempsey. A reception in the museum’s atrium will follow the talk from 5:00–6:30 pm.

This event is free and open to the public.

John Corbett has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) since 1988. He was artistic director of Berlin JazzFest 2002, co-curated the Empty Bottle Jazz Series from 1996 to 2005, and was co-curator of Pathways to Unknown Worlds: Sun Ra, El Saturn, and Chicago’s Afro-Futurist Underground. Jim Dempsey was the house manager for twenty years and occasional programmer at the Gene Siskel Film Center, Chicago. He is an alumnus of SAIC. Together Corbett and Dempsey are co-owners of the Corbett vs. Dempsey Gallery in Chicago. They also have been involved in many independent curatorial projects, including Big Picture: A New View of Painting In Chicago and Touch and Go: Ray Yoshida and his Spheres of Influence.

The 3-D Doings exhibition and subsequent catalogue are funded in part by The Andy Warhol Foundation, and the Terra Foundation for American Art, as part of Art Design Chicago.

Art Design Chicago is a wide-ranging initiative to explore the breadth of Chicago’s role as a catalyst and incubator for innovations in art and design. Spearheaded and funded by the Terra Foundation, with significant support from The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, Art Design Chicago was developed in partnership with more than 40 cultural organizations to celebrate Chicago’s artists, designers, and creative producers. Art Design Chicago will feature more than 25 exhibitions and hundreds of public programs, presented throughout 2018, as well as the creation of several scholarly publications and a four-part documentary.
