Join us Tuesday, November 15, at 7:30 pm, for Saratoga Sings the Voice of the People. This concert will explore how composers — from Mozart and Verdi to present day — have challenged the status quo with powerful statements that have resonated beyond opera house walls.

David T. Little, the critically acclaimed composer of the operas Soldier Songs, Dog Days and JFK, has curated this very special concert, featuring alumni of Opera Saratoga’s Young Artist Program, including mezzo soprano Vera Savage and bass baritone Adrian Rosas, along with members of Skidmore College’s voice faculty, soprano Sylvia Stoner and Garrett Obrycki. Little will also be joined by Opera Saratoga’s Artistic and General Director Lawrence Edelson and Saratoga Performing Arts Center’s new President, Elizabeth Sobol, to speak about how opera has represented the voice of the people in different centuries across the globe.

Saratoga Sings the Voice of the People will be held in the midst of the Tang’s exhibition, A More Perfect Union, which foregrounds the museum as town-square debuts Flag Exchange, a multi-year project by conceptual and social interventionist artist Mel Ziegler. With an inventory of new United States flags in his car, Ziegler journeyed to each of the 50 states and gave new flags in exchange for weathered ones, which are now hung in the space, fully encompassing the viewer in their living history.
