Join us Thursday, July 20, at 6 pm, for a performance of gypsy swing by Hot Club of Saratoga on the lawn outside the Tang.
Hot Club of Saratoga, the Capital Region’s premier gypsy swing ensemble, plays a repertoire that reflects the spirit and style originated by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in The Quintet of the Hot Club of France. Most prominently developed in 1930s and ’40s Paris, this genre has been kept alive through a long line of gypsy jazz artists since that time. Most of the tunes Hot Club of Saratoga plays were written or recorded by Django at some time in his musical life, hot swing music of the 1920s, ’30 and ’40s. The group last played at Upbeat in 2016.
For its 22nd season, the Upbeat on the Roof summer series highlights regional musical talent every Thursday, July 6 through August 17, at 6 pm.
Performances take place on the lawn outside the Tang and are free and open to the public. Visitors are invited to bring picnic blankets, camping chairs, and their own food and drink to make it a night!
Tang Art Educators offer craft kits for kids at every concert, starting at 5:30! A different craft will be available each week. This week, the craft is Penny Spinners. Participants are invited to decorate various penny spinner designs! All projects are suitable for children aged 5 and up, with adult supervision recommended. Materials will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
