Skidmore students, faculty, and staff are invited to join us Tuesday, March 21, at 6 pm, for the 2023 F. William Harder Lecture “Fabric Inspires,” with fashion designer and Skidmore alumna Barbara Tfank, whose exhibition Barbara Tfank: Fabric Inspires will be on view March 18–26 at the Tang. Attendance is limited and pre-registration is required via this form. The lecture will also be available via this Vimeo livestream.
Skidmore’s annual F. William Harder Lecture in Business Administration was endowed in 1985 by a Skidmore parent and longtime trustee. The talks bring together students and faculty with industry leaders to explore the current business environment and upcoming challenges. It is sponsored by Management and Business Department, the Arts Administration Program, the Tang Teaching Museum, and the Office of the Dean of the Faculty.
Tfank graduated from Skidmore College and Stanford University, becoming a fashion design assistant in New York City, her hometown. Working with Richard Avedon and cinematographer Nestor Almendros opened her up to a world of photography and cinema, and led her to become a costume designer for feature films. This work prompted her to create her own collection. Tfank’s designs have subsequently been worn by such notable figures as Michelle Obama, Uma Thurman, Kate Winslet, and Adele.
