Join us Thursday April 22, at 7 PM, for Tang Live: Black Voices Lifted in Song, featuring a vocal performance by Destiny Donelson ’21 with Richard Cherry on piano. The performance, streamed live on the Tang’s Instagram account, will take place in the exhibition Never Done: 100 Years of Women in Politics and Beyond, and feature selections from works Donelson will perform at her Senior Capstone performance, which takes place Saturday, April 24, at 7:00 PM at Zankel Music Hall, streamable on Vimeo.

About the Performers

Destiny Donelson ‘21 (vocals) is a senior from Dayton, Ohio pursuing a BA in Chemistry at Skidmore. In addition to her scientific studies, she loves music, and has made it a mission to study music during her Skidmore career. As the lead singer in her band Nu-Note, Destiny has performed at the Tang twice: at the Tang ❤ Students event in 2019 and the 19th season of Upbeat on the Roof. She is currently preparing for her senior recital that will take place at Arthur Zankel Music Center on April 24. A recent recipient of the Barbara Gruntal Prize in voice, Destiny has previously performed in Opera Workshop scenes with roles from operas such as La Fée (The Fairy) in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Anna Bolena in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, and the princess in El Gato con Botas by Xavier Montsalvatge. She has studied voice under Dr. Sylvia Stoner-Hawkins since her first year at Skidmore, and plans to continue her music studies wherever she lands after graduating.

Richard Cherry (piano) graduated from The Canberra School of Music, Canberra, Australia, where he was subsequently a faculty member. Since moving to the United States in 1993 he has been a faculty member of the Rockland Conservatory of Music and Blue Rock School, both in Rockland County, New York. He has been at Skidmore College since 2008.
