Anne Bogart, Obie-winning director and co-artistic director of SITI Company, and Elizabeth Streb will discuss a new piece they are collaborating on while in residence at Skidmore College. The dialogue will be moderated by Dayton Director of the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, Ian Berry.

This talk is co-presented by the Office of Special Programs and held in conjunction with the Tang’s exhibition Streb Action.

Elizabeth Streb is the Skidmore Summer Dance Choreographer-in-Residence and Anne Bogart is Co-Artistic Director of Skidmore’s Summer Theater Workshop with SITI Company. Both programs are sponsored by the Office of Special Programs at Skidmore College. The event is sponsored by the New York State Council on the Arts, the Office of Special Programs and the Tang Teaching Museum.

About Elizabeth Streb

Streb received the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation ‘Genius’ Award in 1997. She holds a Master of Arts in Humanities and Social Thought from New York University, a Bachelor of Science in Modern Dance from SUNY Brockport, and honorary doctorates from both SUNY Brockport and Rhode Island College. Her popular book, STREB: How to Become an Extreme Action Hero, was made into a hit documentary, Born to Fly directed by Catherine Gund (Aubin Pictures). Streb founded STREB EXTREME ACTION in 1979. In 2003, she established SLAM, the STREB Lab for Action Mechanics, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Streb has been a featured speaker presenting her keynote lectures at such places as TEDxMET, the Institute for Technology and Education (ISTE), POPTECH, the Penny Stamps Speaker Series at the University of Michigan, Chorus America, and as a Caroline Werner Gannett Project speaker in Rochester NY, among others. Streb has received numerous other awards and fellowships including the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1987 and two New York Dance and Performance Awards (Bessie Awards), in 1988 and 1999. In 2009, Streb was the Danspace Project Honoree. She served on Mayor Bloomberg’s Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission and is a member of the board of the Jerome and Camargo Foundations.

About Anne Bogart

Residing in New York City, Anne Bogart attended Bard College (BA) and New York University (MA). Bogart’s works with SITI include Café Variations, Trojan Women, American Document, Antigone, Under Construction, Freshwater, Who Do You Think You Are, Radio Macbeth, Hotel Cassiopeia, Death and the Ploughman, La Dispute, Score, bobrauschenbergamerica, Room, War of the Worlds, Cabin Pressure, War of the Worlds: The Radio Play, Alice’s Adventures, Culture of Desire, Bob, Going, Going, Gone, Small Lives/Big Dreams, The Medium, Noël Coward’s Private Lives and Hay Fever, August Strindberg’s Miss Julie, and Charles Mee’s Orestes. She is a professor at Columbia University and the author of four books: A Director Prepares, The Viewpoints Book, And Then, You Act and Conversations with Anne.
